NotJustaPrettyScent

Aromatherapy is not just a pretty scent, as we’ve discovered on our month-long journey through olfactory therapy, taste plus smell, olfactory relationships, the power of scent memory, and the value in support systems.

The application of genuine plant-based essential oils and extractions for therapeutic purposes holistically enhancing a person’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health: that’s what aromatherapy is all about. We’ll be exploring why plants create primary and secondary metabolites like essential oils and showing you how we can help you take the edge off in 10-minute increments.

Plants are powerful. They are powered by the soil, water, air and sunlight and turn that energy into chemical molecular energy for survival, creating primary metabolites (enzymes, protein, lipids, carbohydrates and chlorophyll) to stay alive. Plants also produce secondary metabolites (alkaloids, flavonoids and essential oils) to communicate and protect their own organism from external stressors and aggressors like disease and pestilence.

It’s this basic energy force from neutrons, protons and electrons that connects all living forms to one another; when we tune into its frequency, we thrive.

Plant essential oils help in various ways: clearing sinuses and respiratory issues, reducing stress and tension, calming anxiety, encouraging sleep, relieving headaches, easing pain and musculoskeletal problems, soothing skin conditions, promoting digestive ease, hormonal balance, and so much more.

If you’re experiencing anxiety, stress and tension, fatigue, discomfort, brain fog, restlessness, lack of sleep, or simply need to create some headspace to help you breathe easier, we can help you take the edge off.

In cumulative 10-minute increments, over time, you can begin to feel the effects of olfactory aromatherapy:

  • 10-minute increments throughout the day using our aromatic inhaler can help you breathe easier, feel relaxed or energized or simply create headspace to gain clarity and focus; applying our botanical salve can help ease pain and discomfort; our botanical body brûlée can soothe your skin while soothing your senses as needed; and our aromatic sweet dream sac helps clear your mind and slip you into a deep slumber.

  • 30 minutes a week applying our botanical body brush can help relieve sinus pressure, ease congestion, stress and tension while removing dead skin cells and revealing smoother, healthier skin. A mini sauna in your shower.

  • 60 minutes a week soaking in our botanical bath spa or using it as a restorative foot bath can help relieve aching muscles, stress and tension while relaxing and replenishing your mind, body and spirit. A mini getaway in your tub.

Allow yourself 60 minutes a week to take the edge off and start your aromatherapy, feel-good journey. You deserve it!

The term aromatherapy is relatively new, first coined in the book Gattefossé’s Aromatherapy, in the early 20th century by René-Maurice Gattefossé. However, aromatic plants and aromatic extractions have been used to support the mind, body and spirit since ancient history by the Chinese, Egyptians, Indians, Greeks and Romans, and continues to be used today in our modern-day world with modern-day challenges.

The molecular effects of essential oils in the human body are clinically understudied and scientifically researched. Newly emerging research is promising so we continue the exploration.

As super viruses like COVID-19 continue to develop, and instances of drug-resistant bacteria increase, there is an urgent need to understand bacteria's molecular structure and its resistance. Finding new ways of fighting bacteria is paramount, and the molecular structure of plant material may hold a clue for generating new remedies to continue supporting our wellbeing.

In the meantime, aromatherapy will continue its journey as a self-care preventative from external stressors, supporting acute and chronic conditions, and as a complementary health and wellness modality to modern biomedicine and ancient alternative approaches such as acupuncture, bodywork, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to promote balance and support our own organ systems.

The journey of aromatherapy is a marathon, not a sprint. I’m excited to continue on this aromatic journey with you: helping you support your mind, body and spirit.
